Twitter for mass Bible study

By in Culture

I am fascinated by the emerging social media and the applications that folks all across the board are finding in it.  One of the most encouraging signs to me of the vitality of the church today is the widespread adoption of new tools to spread the gospel.  Now, certainly there are risks here (currently reading “Flickering Pixels” which addresses this – thoughts to come when I finish) but for the most part I think progress in this regard is good.

With that being said, there is a small effort to use Twitter to coordinate a mass study and reading of Psalms.  John Acuff (@prodigaljohn) of the Stuff Christians Like blog started today working through the Psalms chapter by chapter and posting a thought a day and asking others to do the same.  The hashtag for the conversation is #sclp, and already it looks like many people are participating.  There are lots of issues here, like moderating, biblical legitimacy of insight, anonymity of the internet etc., but I think this is a valuable effort.  Not only do I find this fascinating and will be watching to see how it goes, but I am also participating.
